Art Marks

Here is one of the bookmarks I made recently, based on my artwork. It has a piece of authentic canvas on it with some beads attached, on the back is my signature and a few words about the original painting. I thoroughly enjoyed putting these together... and created two different bookmarks and a keyring. If you would like to view these pieces have a look at http://www.nichohn.com.au under Art Marks.

Gift of Appreciation

Last week was a very full and most productive week....I was approached to join the Visual Merchandising Team (Display) with a major retailer. I have accepted, 2 days a week, and so I will be creating with inspiration, in the store. It is quiet a change for both myself and my family....It's been 9 years since I've been 'employed' by someone else, and was in this job before my children came along. So I'm embracing the challenges and feel it's a great opportunity to learn and grow.

I also started teaching an Arts program to the Preps and Preschoolers at my children's school.Always interesting, and loved being a child with them, a real chance to play.

At the end of the week, I really felt great appreciation for all that I have in my life; my creativity, my children, my husband, my friends...And was very conscience of staying committed to myself, as I am just as important as anyone or anything in my life;walking daily, going to yoga, mediating and allowing myself time just to do nothing. So easy to ignore when times are busy.

Here's to living the inspiration and feeling the appreciation!

Smiling Anna!

On Saturday I journeyed to Brisbane with one of my artistic, and quiet chatty girlfriends, Anna.
We had the pleasure of attending a function called Business with a Bling. Anna displayed her beautiful Art Bags (handbags that are all hand painted oringials http://www.annabartlett.com) along side A Bit of Bling jewellery. You can also see more at http://www.annabartlett.etsy.com

What was unique to this women's gathering was the guest speakers, professional and successful women in business. One of whom was Maureen Frank, awarded Telstra Business Woman of the Year 2002, spoke about her personal experiences. Very insightful. She has written a book called You Go Girlfriend, where she shares the knowledge she has gained http://www.yougogirlfriend.com.au. I totally enjoyed the day and was a wonderful opportunity to mix with a group of ladies I had not had the pleasure of meeting before.

Come Play With Me

Come Play With Me
Acrylic/Mixed Media on Canvas

This painting is a recent creation that I am exhibiting in the Downlands Art Exhibition this coming weekend,28th-30th July. I have three pieces in the show...and I feel great about showing them all. After the exhibition I will post them on my website. The exhibition usually includes a wide range of established and contemporary emerging artists and is always an interesting show. A few controversial pieces always makes for great conversation!

Paint and Mud do Mix!

Washing out brushes can be a wonderful source of fascination...watching the colours mix and swirl.
Being child like is fun, finding delight in all creations.

Who is Nic Hohn?

Who is Nic Hohn? Great question and one I often ask myself. I will share some of who I believe I am, as an Artist... I've always been interested in texture and colour, symbolism and higher knowledge. All of which I feel I've been able to incorporate in my artwork. I love to explore concepts, and so my artwork is constantly evolving and growing as am I....

I didn't know I could paint until about 5 years ago and I went into a painting frenzy....I statred to incorpate mixed media in my work. I have always loved mixed media collage, just didn't know how it 'fitted in'..then I discovered the wonderfull world of mixed media artists across the globe through the internet.I now consider myself a mixed media collage artist.

As award winning artist I have exhibited in many art shows, from one end of Australia to the other, been involved with group exhibitions, exhibited two solo shows, and have art work internationally owned. I've taught many workshops/classes.... including children’s art, creative jouranlling and women’s self development workshops. I also create jewellery, have been published as an illustrator and mixed media artist, loved window dressing, painted murals, jeans, doors, mail boxes and fridges.(Just about anything I could get my hands on!)

Creating and painting isn't my only passion, I also enjoy working with creative potential- my own and others. Also love facilitating workshops. My workshops are an oppurtunity to create and look within..Perhaps discover something about themselves they may not have known. This is part of the reason why I have become a Kaizen-Muse Creativity Coach. With thses coaching tools and my Perceptive Astrology knowledge I love to guide and assist others work through their challenges in a creative, empowering way....knowing everybody has the ability to SHINE!

I live on the coast in Queensland, Australia with my husband who loves fishing our son aged 10 and daughter aged 7, and an energetic border collie. Creating art is the inspiration in my life and it is an amazing journey....

Mural Painting With Friends

This is a blank wall at my childrens school, Highfields State. An area that has huge potential for some creative work! My sons class and the other Year 3's have been studying a unit
'I Spy- Endangered Plants and Animals' and this wall was chosen to represent the information they have been learning. The mural I designed was scenic background for animal silhouettes... The children have also made concrete pavers for a 'Learnscape Garden'. They have drawn into the pavers designs to reflect the endangered and native species. The background on the wall runs from desert to woodland to rainforest to ocean.

I had three helpers, Michelle, Nadine and Jane.. all mums of Year 3's and great friends. We all had fun painting together, it was great to have some company painting, for a change. The wall is transformed, ready for the animal silhouettes and it was a very productive day. Thanks Guys!

It's Raining!

It's been too long,
But now it's Raining.
Football's been cancelled,
And it's still Raining.
I sip my green tea,
And it's still Raining.
It's cosy inside,
And it's still Raining.
The sound on the tin roof,
And it's still Raining.
A quiet day at home...
Let it Rain!

Opening Night

Art Show 542 was a great success! I was in good company, the food was plentiful and delicious and the art works were interesting and inspiring .

A number of red dots appeared throughout the night, and raffles were drawn. I enjoyed catching up with my friends and people I had not seen for quiet some time. A great exhitibtion all round.

Here are my friends, Judy ( just got back from Melbourne) myself, Wendy (won a raffle prize) and Kathy, all having fun in the midst of the exhibition!

If you would like to view the paintings I had on exhibit please see my website http://www.nichohn.com.au

Trust....

I've been creating a commission painting of late and found it somewhat challenging: not the subject, not the skill level, not the design, but the motivation. Why was I having difficulty making time to paint? The commission certainly felt good when I took it on.... Until I realized this artwork wasn't about me. I am the tool like a brush or the paint. This painting is for a gift and when I tapped into the how much love and the reason why I was creating, the energy, the time and paint just flowed.

When I was creating the center of the painting ,which is the heart image, I trusted the process and my intuition more than I ever had before. No self judgment, no self criticism. It felt good! And my client loves it.....

542

This coming Friday night Art Show 542 is being held in Toowoomba. This exhibition is run by SANDS(Qld) a charity providing support for parents and families who experience the death of their baby due to causes related to early pregnancy loss, stillbirth and neonatal death. Why 542? It is approximately the number of Queensland families effected each year.

Usually held in Brisbane, a delight to have this show in the area and I have no doubt it will be hugely successful! It is only open Friday evening so if you would like to come along please contact Jo 0438 384 994 or sandsqld@powerup.com.au . Brisbane artists have also been invited to participle so a great chance to see a wide variety of artwork. I am showcasing 3 new pieces of work and looking forward to the evening!

Inspired by Nature

Isn't nature amazing? If we just take the time to look. Recently after dropping my children to school I looked up and to my delight this is what I saw... Two stairways to heaven?

I stood entranced by what saw.

This is an image of a reflection and shadow, if that is possible, I often see right outside my door on a cement pillar. Just being aware and having open eyes its is truly amazing what is in our everyday world.

"No longer conscious of my movement,

I discovered a new unity with nature.

I had found a new source of power and beauty,

a source I never dreamt existed"

Messages

I created this painting recently for a joint exhibition, Crea8. You can see more at http://www.crea8.info. It seems appropriate to be the first image posted as it is called "Messages" and is created with collage and acrylic paint on canvas, 930mm x630mm.

This morning on my walk I really wanted to create something magnificent in my day, and as it is school holidays I am also enjoying having my children home. When I arrived home my children were dressed, happy and had made their beds as well as mine. An accomplishment for a 8 and a 5 year old. And I feel grateful. Here's to more magnificence today!
