get out of the box!

I have just have a huge revelation....it was in the shower just minutes ago. (i often get my best aha's under the shower rose) After discovering this amazingly beautiful magazine, Artful Blogging and checking out some of the blogs and artists featured in it I have realised how I have been limiting myself. I was so scared of not having my art accepted that i kind of found some middle ground between what i really wanted to create and what i thought my clients wanted to buy. And it so hasn't worked on many levels.

I want to let go of those old patterns and create the unusualness that is inside of me. It's like I've been trying to define myself with my art and putting myself into some sort of category box, but my soul has been screaming"You don't belong in a box!"

I've tried to settle down into a style of art and focus on my direction, but i love to create in so many different ways...how does that then work? I just need to do it and let the rest take care of itself.

Art and creativity is ever evolving and as an artist accepting that themes change. It's just how to goes. I see it often at annual art shows. Paintings from the same artist change with the year that has gone by. I mean I would not like to stay the same or not grow in how i am for a whole year, would you? I get the feeling that people viewing the show go with 'expectations' of seeing similar because if they haven't been watching the artist progress over the year, they draw on what they have seen previously.

So i am going to fearless create outside the box, let my imagination play, and just be me...accept that not matter what i create i'm the one that needs to love it...and trust the Universe will take care of the rest.

Good for you, Nic. I've only recently discovered and fallen in love with mixed media artwork. Quite a change from my usual artwork but I'm lovin' the freedom and flexibility. I am so inspired by blogs such as your's.

Keep up the wonderful work ~

PS. - Did you find the Artful Blogging magazine in newsagents here or on the net? I want one!

Oh Nic..Your art is so beautiful and meaningful..! I love that piece that is in your banner! How did you cut the paper...free hand?

The piece in my banner is originally from an artwork (artplay) that I created out of collage. Do you remember making snow flakes as a kid? That is what I did with the book page and then created collage on top of it.(I feel I'll post about this, thanks for the inspiration Pam)

G'day Nic
Congratulations on being published in Cloth, Paper, Scissors ... ohh I hope I don't have to wait too long before it arrives at the newsagent - I get mine from the south-end Hyperdome newsagent. Also looking forward to the arrival of Artful Blogging - have the first one and so enjoyed that - I've ordered mine from A Creative Place over at Mitchelton. http://www.acreativeplace.com.au/
- they give me great service but of course we have to wait until it arrives on our shores.
Sometimes I wonder if I'd be better off ordering from US especially when the $ conversion is so good at pressie. Anyway congratulations again ... OOroo ... B
