after being in class with Jan ( Expressive Faces) at CSR I'm trying to loosen up a little in parts of my portraits. I still love the drawing element of the facial features, wanting to loosen up around them. I'm not sure if these really work for me, but I see them as progress and I'm stretching... maybe the most challenging part is letting go of wanting perfection.

I love the composition, but have to say , I prefer your trademark faces…but it is always good to try something new.
Change is good! Trying something new and challenging ourselves instead of sticking with what we know and know we do well isnt easy.

Perfection can be a dirty word when it gets stuck in our head as we create. I have to say a mantra to myself everytime I work on something "It doesn't have to be perfect. It doesn't have to be perfect......." I constantly remind myself "Progress, not perfection." And besides, what may not be perfect to us may be absolute perfection to another person! Your green haired woman is my idea of perfection & I would love to have her in my art room! Your work is beautiful so keep flying!
I love the words in this second painting. I always think a work of art isn't complete unless you add the story.
I sometimes have that internal struggle about putting words on my canvas art...those 'voices' from mainstream art pop into my head about 'real' art. In my journal, easy peazy! Just gotta remember who my art is for...me!
